Chiron lines in astrocartography

A Chiron line marks the places where Chiron was rising, setting, overhead or underfoot when you were born. Astrologers call Chiron the wounded healer, and they read its lines as places tied to sensitivity, old hurts and the understanding you can offer others because of them.

What is a Chiron line in astrocartography?

A Chiron line marks the places where Chiron, a small body orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, was rising (AC), setting (DC), overhead (MC) or underfoot (IC) at your birth. Astrologers call Chiron the wounded healer and read its lines as places tied to sensitivity, old hurts and empathy for others.

What Chiron is

Chiron is a small body orbiting the Sun between Saturn and Uranus, discovered in 1977. Astronomers group it with the centaurs, small worlds whose paths cross the orbits of the giant planets. It took its name from the centaur Chiron of Greek myth: a wise teacher of heroes who carried a wound he could not cure.

Astrology kept the story. Chiron is often called "the wounded healer": in a chart it marks a tender spot, and the understanding that can grow around it. The phrase is symbolic. Chiron lines are not about medicine or therapy, no line treats anything, and nothing on this page is a promise about your wellbeing.

Because it was found so recently, Chiron is a newer addition to astrocartography. Some astrologers read its lines closely; others leave them out. Chiron lines are off by default on our map: switch Chiron on in the Lines tab. Our Chiron positions come from a NASA JPL table, so the map draws Chiron only for the birth years that table covers.

What Chiron stands for in astrocartography

On a map, Chiron's themes become questions about places: where might you feel your own sensitivities more clearly, and where might that experience turn into something you can share? Tradition links Chiron lines with empathy, mentoring and teaching, and with the kind of understanding that comes from having been through something yourself.

The same lines are linked with feeling exposed. A Chiron place may bring up old memories or make you aware of what still feels tender. Astrologers read that awareness as the starting point, not the problem: the line is about meeting a sore spot with patience, at your own pace.

Chiron lines: often read as good for, and less suited to

Often read as good for

  • Reflection, retreats and revisiting your past
  • Teaching, mentoring and guiding others, on the MC line
  • Bonds in which both people learn to be gentler, on the DC line
  • Making peace with family history, on the IC line

Less suited to

  • Carefree holidays with nothing to think about
  • Periods when you want old memories kept at a distance
  • Treating a place as a cure: it is a symbol, not a treatment
  • Times when you need a familiar support network close by

The phrase "wounded healer" is symbolic: a Chiron line is read as a setting for understanding, never as therapy or a promise about wellbeing.

How Chiron lines are drawn

Chiron's four lines follow the same rules as every other body. The MC line (solid) and IC line (dashed) are straight meridians from pole to pole, half a world apart. The AC line (solid) and DC line (dashed) curve, and they stop beyond latitude 90 minus Chiron's declination, where Chiron neither rose nor set that day.

Chiron's orbit is tilted against the zodiac, so it often sits a little north or south of the ecliptic. That means the two line methods, "in the sky" and "on the ecliptic", can draw its lines slightly apart. Our map uses the in-sky method by default and lets you switch; the method page explains both.

How to choose between the Chiron lines

Ask which kind of tenderness you are curious about. The AC line is about how you carry your own sensitivity in front of others. The DC line is about what partners and close friends stir up. The MC line turns experience into a public role, often teaching or guiding. The IC line stays private, with family and the past.

Then look at the neighbors. A Chiron line near a Venus or Moon line is often read as gentle and caring; near a Saturn or Pluto line, as more serious inner work. Click any city to see all the lines near it, and the relocation chart to see which house Chiron falls in there. The reading guide covers the basics.

Chiron lines, travel and moving

For a short trip, astrologers read a Chiron line as a place for reflection: revisiting somewhere from your past, a retreat, a course where you learn from people with experiences like yours. A visit lets you meet the theme in a small dose.

Living on a Chiron line keeps the theme present. Some people describe that as meaningful, others as tiring. A line is one input among many, and work, cost of living, visas, family and the support around you matter far more to how a move goes. Use the map to add a layer of meaning, not to make the decision.

Common worries about Chiron lines

Will a Chiron line hurt me?

No. A place does not wound anyone, and astrocartography does not predict events. Tradition reads Chiron lines as places where you may notice your sensitivities more, which is a description, not a forecast.

Is a Chiron line a place to heal?

Astrologers use the word, but symbolically. A Chiron line may be a meaningful setting for reflection. It is not a treatment, and it never replaces the people and professionals you trust.

I live on my Chiron line. Is that a problem?

No. If life where you are works, the line simply adds a reading: perhaps a place where you have grown more understanding, or where you are the person others confide in.

Where is my Chiron line?

Enter your birth details on the map and switch Chiron on in the Lines tab, because its lines are off by default. Chiron lines are amber with the ⚷ glyph, solid for MC and AC, dashed for IC and DC. Click or search a city to see how far it is from each Chiron line.

Is a Chiron line good or bad?

Neither. Tradition reads it as tender and meaningful: a place where you may feel more exposed, and also where you may understand yourself and others better. Astrologers describe it as a line to meet with patience and at your own pace, not one to fear or to chase.

Why is Chiron called the wounded healer?

The name comes from Greek myth: the centaur Chiron was a gifted teacher of heroes who carried a wound he could not cure. Astrologers adopted the image for Chiron in a chart, as a symbol of sensitivity turned into understanding. The phrase is symbolic and says nothing about medicine.

How close to my Chiron line do I need to be?

Astrologers do not agree, and Chiron is a newer addition that some read more lightly than the planets. Many give most weight to a few hundred kilometers. This map shows the exact km and miles from any place, and in the Best places tab you can choose 200, 400 or 700 km.

Why does the map not show Chiron for my birth year?

Our Chiron positions come from a NASA JPL table that covers a fixed range of years. Outside that range the map leaves Chiron out rather than guess its position, so you will still see every other line. The method page explains where each position comes from.

Are Chiron lines important?

Astrologers disagree. Because Chiron was found only recently, it is a newer addition to astrocartography: some read its lines closely, others leave them out and work with the planets only. Try them as an extra layer, especially where a Chiron line runs near a Moon, Venus or Saturn line.
