North Node IC line
Your North Node IC line marks the places where the Moon's north node lay beneath your feet at birth. It is read as purpose found through home and ancestry: returning to family history, or building a base that helps you grow into yourself.

What the North Node IC line is
The North Node IC line, also called the North Node Imum Coeli line, is the meridian where the node sat at the lowest point of your chart, under the Earth, when you were born. In a chart for any place on it, the North Node sits on the IC: the angle of home, family, roots and private life. It is one of four node lines, all compared on the North Node line page.
On our map it is a straight, dashed line from pole to pole, exactly opposite your North Node MC line. The South Node was overhead along this meridian, so it is also your South Node MC line. Node lines are switched off by default on our map: turn on the North Node in the Lines tab to see them.
What astrologers associate it with
With the point of direction on the angle of roots, tradition reads growth that happens in private: making a home, learning where your family came from, building a base that feels like yours. It is one of the quieter lines on the map.
The South Node on the MC describes the familiar side. Career, achievement and your public role come easily, and you may lean on them out of habit. The line is read as an invitation to give your private life the same care you give your work.
Home and daily life
This is where the line is felt most. Astrologers link it with settling down, buying furniture you plan to keep, planting a garden, or finally unpacking the boxes. Some people describe a feeling of arriving, as if a place makes sense of them.
The challenge is that the growth is slow and inward. If you are used to measuring life by outside progress, the quiet can feel like standing still at first.
Love and relationships
Tradition pictures relationships here centered on home: a partner who feels like family, building a household together, and closeness that grows over time rather than in a rush. With the South Node on the MC, one caution is letting work and status define the relationship instead of daily life together.
Work and reputation
Your known skills and reputation tend to work well near this line, since they are the South Node's familiar ground. Astrologers read the growth as lying elsewhere, so work that supports home life, such as remote work, a family business or a craft done at home, fits the symbolism better than chasing the next title.
Strengths and challenges
Strengths
- A home that feels like a real base
- A deeper connection with family history
- A calmer, more private sense of purpose
- Career skills that still come easily
Challenges
- Slow, inward growth that is hard to see
- Falling back on work out of habit
- Family stories that take time to understand
- Feeling restless before you settle
Visiting versus living there
One way to use this line is a trip to a family homeland or an ancestral town that happens to lie near it. Astrologers read such visits as a way of understanding where you come from. Living here is read as putting down roots in a place that helps you grow, but a home decision rests on many things a line cannot weigh: work, cost of living, visas and the people you love. The home search shows it next to lines such as Moon IC and Venus IC.
How close you need to be
Astrologers commonly use a band of a few hundred kilometers, strongest near the line. If you are not sure of your birth time, set how sure you are and the map shades the zone where this meridian could fall. For a family town or a place you want to settle, read a line inside that zone as possible rather than certain.
When it crosses other lines
The curved AC and DC lines of your planets cross this meridian, and astrologers read each crossing latitude as a paran. A crossing with your Venus DC line is often read as a loving partnership tied to a home; one with your Mars AC line as energy poured into building your base.
Is the North Node IC line good for living?
It is often read as one of the more meaningful lines for settling, because its theme is home, roots and building a base that feels like yours. It is about slow, private growth rather than excitement, so it suits people who want a base. The quiet can feel like standing still at first, which astrologers read as part of the line.
What does the South Node MC line mean?
It is this same meridian from the other end of the axis. The South Node was overhead, so career, achievement and public life feel familiar and come easily here, and the growth is read as coming from home and family. Astrologers describe it as an invitation to give your private life the same care you give your work.
My family comes from a place near my North Node IC line. Does it mean something?
Astrologers who use node lines would find that meaningful, since the line is linked with ancestry and roots. A trip to a family homeland near it is a classic way to explore that. Treat it as a reason for curiosity about your family history, not as proof of anything, and check your birth time, since a few minutes can move the line.
North Node IC vs Moon IC line?
The Moon IC line is read as emotional comfort and nesting. The North Node IC line is read as purpose and growth through home and roots. One is about feeling at home; the other is about why home matters to your path. A place near both is read as belonging that also helps you grow.
