Astrocartography for career: best places for work

The cities nearest your MC lines for the Sun, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and Mars, the lines astrologers link with work and reputation. Free, no sign-up.

Why career lines are MC lines

The Midheaven (MC) is the point at the top of the sky. A planet's MC line runs through the places where that planet stood overhead at your birth, and astrologers read the MC as public life: career, reputation and the direction people see you taking.

MC lines are straight north to south meridians, drawn solid, running from pole to pole. That shapes the list. A career line can pass through a city in the far north and another near the equator at the same longitude, so the list may jump across continents. Moving north or south along the line keeps you on it; moving east or west takes you off.

The five career lines

  • Sun MC. Visibility and a public role. Your aims are on display, which tradition says can feel energizing or exposed.
  • Jupiter MC. Read as a line of opportunity in public life: mentors, teaching, recognition and a growing reputation. The classic caution is promising more than you can deliver.
  • Venus MC. Charm in public and work involving beauty, design, art or diplomacy. Being liked comes easily; being taken seriously may take more effort.
  • Mercury MC. A reputation built on words and ideas: writing, teaching, speaking up and connecting people. It can also scatter your attention across too many projects.
  • Mars MC. Drive, competition and the will to lead. Astrologers add that it can feel combative or rushed, so it suits people who like a challenge.

Saturn MC is not in this list. It sits under Handle with care, and tradition reads it as demanding rather than bad: responsibility, slow effort and respect earned over time.

Distance on an MC line

The list measures distance in kilometers along the Earth's surface, but an MC line is a longitude. One degree of longitude is about 111 km at the equator and shrinks toward the poles. So a city 200 km from your Jupiter MC line in the far north is more degrees of longitude away from it than a city 200 km away near the equator.

That matters in the relocated chart. Click a city and the panel shows its relocated Midheaven and any planet within 5 degrees of it. A planet listed there is still close to the top of the sky in that city, which is the chart-side version of living near its MC line. See the relocation chart page for more.

Using the list for real work decisions

The list knows nothing about job markets, industries, pay, work permits or language. It cannot tell you whether a job will work out, and it is not a reason to leave one. Use it on cities you are already considering, to ask what each place might emphasize in your working life.

If you work remotely, relocation astrology generally reads the place where you live and work from, not where your employer is based. Click your own city to see which MC line runs nearest, and how your relocated Midheaven compares with the one in your birth chart.

Which astrocartography line is best for career?

Tradition names the Jupiter MC and Sun MC lines most often, for opportunity and visibility. Venus MC suits creative and people-facing work, Mercury MC work with words and ideas, and Mars MC competitive fields. Which one fits depends on the work you do, and every one of them has a challenge as well as a strength.

Is the Mars MC line good for career?

It is read as a line of drive and initiative in public life, which can feel motivating if you like a challenge. Astrologers also say it can bring conflict, rivalry or pressure to prove yourself. Whether that suits you depends on your work and temperament. Read the Mars MC line for both sides.

Why does my career line run through such different countries?

MC lines are meridians: they run straight from the North Pole to the South Pole along one longitude. Every place on that longitude sits on the line, whatever its latitude, so one career line can pass through cold northern cities and tropical ones alike. Moving north or south keeps you on it; moving east or west takes you off.

How close to an MC line do I need to be?

There is no agreed figure. Pick 200, 400 or 700 km in the list, and when you click a place the map labels each line very close (under 150 km), close (under 500 km) or in the wider area (under 1,000 km). Many astrologers give the most weight to the first few hundred kilometers.
